About the project

The Chacma Baboon Project works with communities, students, and researchers to promote peaceful coexistence between people and baboons. Through field research, community-led solutions, and training young conservationists, the project seeks to reduce conflict, protect baboons, and build lasting local capacity for conservation.

Helping people

People and baboons share landscapes across Limpopo. As human communities grow and natural habitats change, encounters between people and baboons are becoming more common. Our project works with local communities, farmers, and students to reduce conflict and promote coexistence that benefits both people and wildlife.

Helping baboons

Baboons are highly intelligent, adaptable animals, but they are also among the most misunderstood and heavily persecuted primates. As human settlements and agriculture expand, baboons increasingly come into contact with people, placing them at risk of injury, persecution, and habitat loss. This project works to reduce those risks while supporting long-term survival of baboon populations.

Education

Education is central to building peaceful coexistence between people and baboons. This project shares knowledge, builds skills, and creates learning opportunities that empower communities and train the next generation of conservation leaders.
